Safety Glasses / Goggles / Face Shield / PPE Testing / Quality Control / Laboratory.
ANSI Z87.1 Heated Rod Test Procedure for Safety Eyewear:
1. Sample Mounting: Secure the goggle/lens sample vertically.
2. Rod Specification: Use a cylindrical steel rod with a 6 mm diameter tip.
3. Heating: Heat the rod tip to (650 ± 20)°C.
4. Application: Apply the heated tip perpendicularly to the lens surface with light pressure (≤ 1 N).
5. Duration: Maintain contact for (60 ± 1) seconds.
6. Press the heated face ofthe rod against a surface of the protector (the contact force being equal to the weight ofthe rod) for 5.0 ±0.5 seconds, and then remove it.
7. Pass/Fail Criterion: protectors shall not ignite or continue to glow once the rod is removed. Each externally exposed material (exclusive of textiles or elastic bands) shall be tested.
